I grew up in Hawai`i where my interest in photography was first kindled with a Nikkormat EL SLR brought home from Japan by my father. I was fortunate to have a black and white darkroom available to me, where I spent almost as many hours as in the field learning about photography and what it takes to make a pleasing image. Through this early introduction to photography, I learned to appreciate the natural world that we live in.

My recent passion for photography was rekindled with the introduction of the digital SLR. Being able to capture the image, see it immediately and then transfer that image to print media all under my control, without requiring an expensive and messy darkroom, appealed to me. Over the last five years I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge about everything related to nature photography; and yet I still have an untold amount of things still to learn (if you can ever learn enough). I currently live in Central Florida, which is an ideal spot to hone my skills as a bird photographer. My wife, Becki, and I love to travel (which we do at any opportunity) which also helps me grow as a photographer by allowing me to experience other locales and circumstances.

In ancient Hawai'i, certain places throughout the islands were known to have great spiritual power, or mana. These places, known as wahi pana, were treated with great reverence and respect. All across the world there are many wahi pana that inspire each of us and bring a sense of peace and wonderment when we are in their presence. Through my photography I attempt to capture a small essence of the wahi pana that I have been fortunate enough to visit or see. I hope that, if you have not had an opportunity to visit the wahi pana shown on these pages, my images will help you feel a small part of their magical power.
